The Design Team process is a consistent, inclusive pathway for making decisions for the future of the school/district. The school design process shared here is based on the work of Stanford’s Design School, The Collective Impact Forum, The Institute at CESA #1, Otto Scharmer, Peter Senge, and Dr. McCann’s experiences developing learning organizations in several schools and districts.
If we are to realize our shared vision and reach our strategic goals, we must develop a connection from today to tomorrow. The bridge that connects today with tomorrow especially in a loosely coupled organization is a unity of purpose or shared values coupled with shared commitments and obligations. Westside Community Schools shares a common philosophy and language as well as design principles and processes that bind us together. These commonalities allow our staff to share autonomy and to communicate in open and honest ways, together creating a future they desire for their learners.
It is imperative that we understand the needs of our students and staff to maximize and build the capacity of all stakeholders. As we design educational opportunities, it is important that we do so from the perspective of our learners and then work backward to align our behavior, and that of our system, to meet the unique needs of all learners.
