Westside Community Schools each year trains a few selected individuals from each building using the Mandt System. The Mandt System is a comprehensive, integrated approach to preventing, de-escalating and, if necessary, intervening when the behavior of an individual poses a threat of harm to himself and/or others. The Mandt System focuses on building healthy relationships among all the stakeholders in human service settings in order to facilitate the development of an organizational culture that provides the emotional, psychological and physical safety needed in order to teach new behaviors to replace behaviors that are labeled “challenging.”
Initial training on Mandt is two full days of instruction, and this year’s training began Aug. 20. An annual recertification training will take place three other times during the year with trainers Corrie Philo and Ali Switzer. Marc Benedetto, our former trainer, will support and assist teachers at the training. A relationship and de-escalation training was offered to all to all staff Aug. 17 based on the MANDT training. Corrie Philo, Jenny Brockman and Marc Benedetto have provided this training over the last three years.
